Bill Stevens

William C. Stevens has been Director of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale since 1989. He holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry (Philosophy minor) from the State University of New York, College at Brockport and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Iowa State University. His postdoctoral training was in NMR determinations of DNA structure at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Bill is one of the original members of the Association of Managers in Magnetic Resonance Laboratories (AMMRL) and has served on its Steering Committee since 1992. He was active in Analytical Laboratory Managers Association, serving on its Board of Directors and as a Contributing Editor of Managing the Modern Laboratory.

In his spare time, Bill is an avid ham radio operator who is highly trained in emergency communications and other aspects of emergency management. He received the FEMA Professional Development Series certificate from Illinois Emergency Management Agency in 2006.

Bill holds an Extra Class FCC license, call sign K9YP, and is Coordinator of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service for Jackson County, IL. He is Chief Communications Officer for Jackson County Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Coordinator for Amateur Radio Emergency Service, and holds state-level field appointment as an Official Emergency Station for ARES.

Once asked to help put up a web site for a Fulbright Summer Institute here at SIUC, Bill has stayed on as webmaster. These and others are sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and will hereafter be located at http://institute.siuc.edu.
